Our Occupational Therapists…

 

Provide services that include:

 

*   Assessing an individual’s functional performance of Activities of Daily Living (ADL)

 

*   Identifying barriers to performance of ADLs with the goal of restoring function

 

*   Recommending assistive devices and adapted aids to maintain safety and optimal independence when engaged in the tasks of daily living (ADL)

 

*   Assessing the environment in which the individual lives and providing recommendations for home modifications to meet the client’s unique needs and to optimize functional performance

 

*   Assessing and prescribing specialized mobility aids including manual and power wheelchairs, seating and positioning devices, walkers and scooters

 

*   Assessing cognitive skills and identifying strategies to compensate for any noted deficits as a means of optimizing client function and independence

 

*   Identifying community and government funding sources to provide financial assistance for required equipment and/or home and vehicle modifications

 

*   Providing client education to maximize function e.g. Education in Energy Conservation, Work Simplification, Joint Protection, Falls Prevention, Back Protection Strategies

 

*   Prescribing of hand and wrist splints to support joints affected by injury or disease

 

*   Advocating

 

*   Linking clients to community supports and resources

 

 

For children, our occupational therapists provide services that include:

 

*   Providing assessment and therapy for infants, children and youth with developmental delays and/or difficulties in the following areas: physical, life skill, learning, social and emotional

 

*   Providing individual and group therapy

 

*   Evaluating functional abilities of child in the home, school and/or community

 

*   Providing consultation to the child’s parents/guardians, school team and other professions involved with the child

 

*   Assessing for and prescribing special equipment for seating, mobility, communication and written output (handwriting and keyboarding)

 

*   Assessing for and prescribing special equipment/programs for sensory processing and motor problems
